On May 31, 2013, Houston suffered a tragic loss. Robert Garner, along with three other firefighters, perished while fighting a motel fire in Southwest Houston. This was the deadliest day in the 178-year history of the Houston Fire Department. In our grief, we decided we wanted to do something for others in memory of our friend, Robert.
Inspiring and Educating Tomorrow’s Heroes…Today
We look for innovative ways to help people who are looking to serve their communities in the fire service.
Books for Future Heroes
We have partnered with Houston Community College, Houston ISD, and Fort Bend ISD to create a program that provides costly textbooks to high school juniors and seniors who are currently enrolled in dual credit programs studying Fire Science and Technology.
Through our partnership with Houston Fire Department, local high school seniors can be matched with an active Houston Firefighter who will serve as their mentor.
We have established a partnership with Houston Community College to create an elite fire academy where no student will pay anything out of pocket to attend.
The RGFF’s Beyond Basics is a training program designed to provide high quality, relevant training to current fire fighters in the area at no cost. Click here to learn more about the program and view upcoming training sessions.
GUIDELINES FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Houston fire fighters typically purchase textbooks and HFD guidelines to study for promotional exams. Through an arrangement with the City of Houston, RGFF now provides the HFD Guidelines free of charge to all fire fighters interested in promoting.
